The piece of land that runs east of Pacific Avenue from the stop sign south to the Anchor Tavern was originally platted as part of Pacific Avenue by the Rosenburg family. The portion of Pacific Avenue onwhich the fire hall wasbuilt was vacated and a tax lot was created by Tillamook County.
In that the land was de
signated for public use, it should continue as such. The Netarts/Oceanside Fire District can operate the fire hall, a public service, there. But should the Fire District decide to move to another location, the building might revert to county control and should not be sold to some other entity. TheCounty has already committed a portion of the land south of the stairway to PUD. Because of uncertainties about the status of ownership and the public’s right to retain this property for public use, OPS intends to call on local historians and obtain professional help as needed to guarantee that the land remains the public property of Oceansiders, as intended by the Rosenburgs.
